Privacy is very important to IDEO U. IDEO U does not sell or rent your personal information to third parties without your explicit consent. Please read this Privacy Policy to learn more about the ways in which IDEO U uses and protects your personal information.

This Privacy Policy and the certification seal shown on our Site confirm that IDEO U is a valid licensee, and participating member, in good standing of the Entertainment Software Rating Board’s Privacy Certified Program (“ESRB Privacy Certified”). ESRB Privacy Certified is designed to ensure that our information disclosure practices are responsible and appropriate. To protect your privacy, we have voluntarily undertaken this privacy initiative, and all of our websites where this Privacy Policy is posted have been reviewed and certified by ESRB Privacy Certified to meet established online information collection, use and disclosure practices. As a licensee of this privacy program, we are subject to frequent audits of our websites and other enforcement and accountability mechanisms administered independently by the ESRB.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy applies to the IDEO U content on the internet site located at www.ideou.com ("Site"). By using the Site you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy. Capitalized terms not defined in the Privacy Policy have the meanings ascribed to them in the Terms and Conditions of Use ("TOU" or “Terms”). If you do not agree to the Privacy Policy or the TOU please do not use or access the Site.

This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect from you and what may happen to that information. By accepting the Privacy Policy, you expressly consent to IDEO U's use and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time, so we advise visitors to consult it regularly for changes. We will notify you of any material changes by prominently posting notice of the new Privacy Policy to the Site and/or by sending you an email to the last email address provided to us. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes.

As used in this Privacy Policy, the terms "using" and "processing" information include using cookies on a computer, subjecting the information to statistical or other analysis and using or handling information in any way, including, but not limited to collecting, storing, evaluating, modifying, deleting, using, combining, disclosing and transferring information within our organization or among our affiliates within the United States or internationally.

2. A Note Regarding Children and Minors

Users under the age of 13 may not use this Site. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users under the age of 13 ("Child" or "Children"), and neither does our third-party partner, NovoEd, who handles our Accounts. If IDEO U or NovoEd learn that a Child's personally identifiable information has been collected, we will delete the Account and all personal information associated with it. If parents or guardians believe that IDEO U or NovoEd have unintentionally collected their Child's personally identifiable information, then they should contact us and request the deletion of the information at hello@ideou.com or:

Users under the age of 18 cannot enter into anagreement with IDEO U and we ask that they do not submit any personal information to us. The parents or legal guardians of users under the age of 18 must register on the Site, agree to the TOU and enter into the agreement with IDEO U.

Furthermore, certain Courses may have additional eligibility requirements, as specified on the Course website.

Pursuant to California's Digital Online Eraser Law (California Senate Bill 568), users under the age of 18 have the right to remove, or request the removal of, content or information they have posted on the Site. Please be advised that any information you post to a bulletin board, message board, chat room, community, or other forum is publicly viewable. We strongly recommend that all users avoid posting personal or sensitive information at any time.

Deleting an Account: Should you wish to delete your Account, you are able to do so in two steps:

First, please submit a request to NovoEd at: http://help.novoed.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. Please enter in the following information: Name, URL link to your profile, and the Course currently enrolled in. There are detailed instructions on the page. If you have any questions about the process, then please contact us at hello@ideou.com.

Second, contact us at hello@ideou.com and provide us with your request to delete, your username, and please type "Digital Online Eraser Law Deletion Request" in the subject line.

Deleting or Editing a Comment: Should you wish to delete or edit a comment on the Site, you may do so. Once you post a comment, the date of the post will appear on the right hand side of the comment. If you hover over this date, it will reveal a drop down box with the options to “Edit” or “Delete” the comment.

Removal of this content or information from public view does not guarantee complete or comprehensive removal. After your removal request has been honored, we may retain copies of the content or information you have previously posted on our servers. We are not required to remove your posted content or information if it has been rendered anonymous or if we are required by law to retain it. Additionally, we do not have control over third parties (e.g., other users) who may have copied or reposted this information.

3. Information We Collect

Our primary purposes in collecting personal information are to: (i) provide you and other users with a safe, enjoyable, smooth, and efficient experience, (ii) provide and improve the Services and the Courses, (iii) administer your Account, and (iv) be able to contact you in connection with your Submitted Content. We only collect personal information about you that we consider necessary for achieving these purposes.

When you create an Account or register for or participate in a Course, message board, or other Services offered through the Site, you will be asked for personally identifiable information. This refers to information about you that can be used to contact or identify you ("Personal Information"). We also collect Personal Information that you provide to us when you participate in Courses or online forums or receive or participate in other Services.

Account Creation

Personal Information that our partner, NovoEd, collects for us during Account creation may include your name and email address. We strongly encourage you to review NovoEd’s terms of service agreement and privacy policy, found at https://novoed.com/terms and https://novoed.com/terms#!/privacy-policy, respectively.

You may also choose to sign up through NovoEd with your social media profile (e.g. Facebook or Google+). When you engage with our or NovoEd’s content on or through third-party social networking sites, plug-ins and applications, you may allow us to have access to certain information from your social media profile (e.g., name, email address, photo, gender, birthday, your list of friends, people you follow and/or who follow you) to deliver the content or as part of the operation of the application. Through some social networking sites’ privacy settings, you can control what data you share. For more information about how social networking sites handle your personal information, please refer to their privacy policies and terms of use.

Course Registration

When you register for a Course on the Site, you will be asked to provide us with your email address, payment information (including your billing address) and, optionally, your phone number. Course payments are processed via a third-party payment processor of your choice: PayPal or Shopify. We also encourage you to review their privacy policies at https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/privacy-full and https://www.shopify.com/legal/privacy, respectively.

Message Boards

If you choose to post messages on our message boards, we will collect that information you provide to us (e.g. your username and any other information you may publicly disclose). You may edit or delete content or information you have previously posted using the guidance and under the conditions set forth in the previous section of this Privacy Policy. We retain this information as necessary to resolve disputes and troubleshoot problems as permitted by law. If you send us personal correspondence, such as emails or letters, or if other users or third parties send us correspondence about your activities or postings on the Site, we may collect such information into a file specific to you.

Non-Identifying Information

We also collect other information that you provide as part of registration and the administration and personalization of your Account and as part of your registration for a Course (e.g., without limitation individual preferences) and other non-Personal Information that you provide to us when you participate in online forums or Courses or receive or participate in other Services ("Non-Identifying Information"). We use your Personal Information (in some cases, in conjunction with your Non-Identifying Information) mainly to provide the Services and administer your inquiries.

Certain Non-Identifying Information would be considered a part of your Personal Information if it were combined with other identifiers (for example, combining your zip code with your street address) in a way that enables you to be identified. But the same pieces of information are considered Non-Identifying Information when they are taken alone or combined only with other Non-Identifying Information (for example, your viewing preferences). We may combine your Personal Information with Non-Identifying Information and aggregate it with information collected from other IDEO U users to attempt to provide you with a better experience, to improve the quality and value of the Services and to analyze and understand how the Services are used. We may also use the combined information without aggregating it to serve you specifically, for instance to deliver a product or service to you according to your preferences or restrictions.

AutomaticallyCollected Information

When you visit the Site, whether through an Account or as a non-registered user just browsing, we automatically track certain information that your browser sends whenever you visit a Site. We use this information to do internal research on our users' demographics, interests, and behavior to better understand, protect and serve you and our community. This information may include the URL that you just came from (whether this URL is on the Site or not), which URL you next go to (whether this URL is on the Site or not), access times and dates, your computer browser information, your Internet Protocol ("IP") address, and other statistics ("Log Data"). We use Log Data to monitor and analyze use of the Services and for the Site’s technical administration, to increase our Site’s functionality and user-friendliness, and to better tailor it to our visitors' needs. For example, some of this information is collected so that when you visit the Site again, it will recognize you and provide you with information appropriate to your interests. We also use this information to verify that visitors to the Site meet the criteria required to process their requests.

4. Our Use of Your Information

We use your Personal Information in the file we maintain about you, and other information we obtain from your current and past activities on the Site to: (i) contact you about any Submitted Content; (ii) resolve disputes; (iii) troubleshoot problems; (iv) detect and protect us against error, fraud and other criminal activity; (v) enforce our TOU; and (vi) as otherwise described to you at the time of collection.

We may use your Personal Information to contact you with information about new Courses and updates about the Site and IDEO U, and other information that you have expressed may be of interest to you (i.e. IDEO U or affiliate newsletters, additional information regarding IDEO-affiliated websites, etc.).

We may share aggregated information that does not include Personal Information and we may otherwise disclose Non-Identifying Information and Log Data with third-parties for industry analysis, demographic profiling, academic research, and other purposes. Any aggregated information shared in these contexts will not contain your Personal Information.

You agree that we may use your Personal Information to contact you. By accepting the TOU, you expressly agree that we may contact you as provided herein.

5. Our Disclosure of Your Information

IDEO U may disclose information it has collected from you and/or Submitted Content you have made available on the Site when it believes in good faith that the law or legal process requires it, or when it is necessary to do so to protect the rights or property of IDEO U or others. As a matter of policy, we do not sell or rent any of your Personal Information to third parties without your explicit consent. The following describes some of the ways that your Personal Information may be disclosed in the normal scope of our business.

Service Providers for Our Operations: We may use third-parties as service providers to facilitate the Services, to provide the Services on our behalf, to perform Site-related services (e.g., without limitation, maintenance services, database management, web analytics, and/or improvement of the Site's features) or to assist us in analyzing how the Services are used. Therefore, we may provide some of your Personal Information, Non-Identifying Information and Log Data directly to these service providers. These service providers are subject to confidentiality agreements with us and other legal restrictions that prohibit their use of the information we provide them for any other purpose except to facilitate the specific outsourced IDEO U-related operations, unless you have explicitly agreed or given your prior permission to them for additional uses.

Course Providers: We may share Personal Information, Non-Identifying Information and Log Data with instructors who provide the Courses on the Site ("Course Providers"). They use this information mainly to provide, administer and improve Courses and the Services, to respond to your inquiries, and to analyze and conduct research on the Services.

Your Employer: If you are participating in IDEO U as part of an employer-sponsored program, at the request of your employer we may provide your employer information about your activities and performance in connection with IDEO U, including contributions and performance information with respect to particular IDEO U courses or services. IDEO U shall not be responsible or liable for the use of such information by your employer, and such use shall be subject to your employer's policies (including privacy policies) applicable to you.

Other Corporate Entities: We may share our data, including your Personal Information, Non-Identifying Data and Log Data, with our affiliate and branch offices in the United States and internationally, and with our affiliates’ companies. To the extent that these entities have access to your information, they will treat it at least as protectively as they treat information they obtain from their other users. These entities follow privacy practices no less protective of our users than our practices described in this Privacy Policy, to the extent allowed by applicable law. IDEO U may share some or all of your Personal Information, Non-Identifying Data and Log Data with another business entity should we plan to reorganize, spin out, merge with, acquire, or be acquired by that business entity. Should such an event occur, we will require that the new or combined entity follow this Privacy Policy with respect to your Personal Information. If your Personal Information will be used contrary to this Privacy Policy, you will receive prior notice in as provided in the Notice section (below).

Legal Requests: IDEO U cooperates with law enforcement inquiries, as well as other third parties to enforce laws and intellectual property rights. Therefore, in response to a verified request by law enforcement or other government officials relating to a criminal investigation or alleged illegal activity, we can (and you authorize us to) disclose your name, city, state, telephone number, and email address. Without limiting the above, in an effort to respect your privacy, we will not otherwise disclose your Personal Information to law enforcement or other government officials without a subpoena, court order or substantially similar legal procedure, except when we believe in good faith that the disclosure of information is necessary to prevent imminent physical harm or financial loss; or report suspected illegal activity.

Due to the existing regulatory environment, we cannot ensure that all of your private communications and other Personal Information will never be disclosed in ways not otherwise described in this Privacy Policy. By way of example and without limiting the foregoing, we may be forced to disclose personal information to the government or third parties under certain circumstances or third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications. Therefore, although we use industry standard practices to protect your privacy, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your Personal Information or private communications will always remain private.

6. Changing or Deleting Your Information

All Account holders may review, update, correct or delete the Personal Information in their Account profile by following the directions outlined in the Privacy Policy. If you completely delete all required information, then your Account may become deactivated. If you would like us to delete your Account record in our system, please contact us at hello@ideou.com with a request that we delete the Personal Information you are required to provide to establish an Account from our database. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to honor your request. We may retain an archived copy of your records as required by law or for legitimate business purposes. Also, if you have included Personal Information in online forum postings or in Course assignments or information or communications shared with other Account holders or with Course instructors or staff, you may not be able to update, correct or delete this information from the Site once the Course closes.

7. Control of Your Password

You are responsible for all actions taken with your Account. Therefore we do not recommend that you disclose your password to any third parties. If you choose to share your user ID and password or any personal information with third parties, you are responsible for all actions taken with your Account and therefore you should review that third-party's privacy policy. If you lose control of your password, you may lose substantial control over your personal information and may be subject to legally binding actions taken on your behalf. Therefore, if your password has been compromised for any reason, you should immediately change your password. If you need help changing your password, please contact hello@ideou.com.

8. Other Information Collectors

Except as expressly stated here, this Privacy Policy only fully addresses the use and disclosure of information we collect from you. To the extent that you disclose your information to other parties on our Site or other sites throughout the Internet, different rules may apply to their use or disclosure of the information you disclose to them. Since IDEO U does not control the privacy policies of third parties, you are subject to the privacy policies of that third party. We encourage you to ask questions before you disclose your personal information to others.

9. Security

We use reasonable physical, procedural, technical and administrative security measures to protect your personal information against loss or theft as well as unauthorized access and disclosure to protect your privacy. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. Your information is also stored on our service provider's servers, and we encourage you to review their terms of service agreements and privacy policies before providing information to them. In the event that there is a data breach involving unencrypted Personal Information, we and/or NovoEd will notify you via email and/or by posting a notice on the affected website.

California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits users of this Site who are California residents to request certain information regarding our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. 12. Cookies Policy

IDEO U is committed to protecting you and any data (anonymous or otherwise) that we collect about you online. This section tells you how we use cookies, why, and how this allows us to improve the Services. It also tells you how to manage what cookies are stored on your device.

We use data collection devices such as "cookies" on certain pages of the Site. "Cookies" are small files placed on your hard drive. We use Cookies to allow you to enter your login information less frequently. You are always free to decline our Cookies if your browser permits, although in that case you may not be able to use certain features on the Site and you may be required to re-enter your password or login information more frequently. Examples of Cookies that we use:

_session_id: Allows Shopify to store information about your session (referrer, landing page, etc.) and is a sessional cookie.

_shopify_visit: Used by internal stats tracker to record the number of visits to the Site and is a cookie that is persistent for 30 minutes from the last visit.

_shopify_uniq: Counts the number of visits to a,store by a single customer and is a cookie that expires at midnight (relative to the visitor) or the next day.

cart: Stores information about the contents of your cart and is a cookie that is persistent for two weeks.

_secure_session_id: Stores session information for the checkout process and is a sessional cookie.

storefront_digest: Used to determine if the user has Site access and is an indefinite cookie.

PREF: Google Analytics tracks who visits the store and where from. This is a persistent cookie.

PayPal: PayPal uses cookies to track payment transactions and it is a sessional cookie.

Additionally, you may encounter Cookies or other similar devices used for improving the user experience or providing added functionality on certain pages of the Site that are placed by third parties. For example, if you view content or video submitted by another user, there may be a Cookie placed within that web page. We do not control the use of Cookies by third parties, nor do we have an obligation to do so.

We utilize user activity on the Site to conduct internal research and improve the Site and future Courses. We may also track the URL that you came to the Site from (whether this URL is on the Site or not), which URL you go to next (whether this URL is on the Site or not), your computer browser information, and your IP address. We do all of these things to better understand, protect and serve you and the Sites and to be able to investigate any allegations against you or us.

By using our Site (through any device) you agree that this Privacy Policy applies to that use, in addition to any other terms and conditions which may apply.
